I Love Flowers

Who doesn't? This little yellow crab spider was making her home in the cosmos.

These beautiful roses are part of the garden at DD's pub just down the road from us.

Hibiscus by night, photographed outside a Thai restaurant in Lusaka.

This is the first time I've lived in a house with gardenia and I must say it's the most heavenly smell - I think more people should be growing them. One bloom gently perfumes a room with the most gorgeous fragrance.

I love these big buttery-hued cabbage roses that grow in our garden. The climate here is so moderate that they happily bloom through winter as well.

Only when a local horticulturist paid me a visit did I find out that these exotic looking blooms are begonias.

This shy shade-loving lily is tucked away beneath a bush next to the patio and blooms once in a blue moon!

The Chameleon

It happened on Saturday afternoon that I looked up to see what our dog Dingo was growling at, only to see a tiny chameleon on the floor - no doubt caught by one of the cats. At first I thought he must be dead and swept him into a dustpan, only to then notice he was still breathing.

The hubby made him a fabulous little "recovery box" with sand, water, tree branches and a small bowl of my compost in the hopes it might attract some insects for the little guy to snack on. I had read though that a traumatized or relocated chameleon can easily go three days without eating anything.

The next morning we took a drive down the road to a park and let Chris Chameleon back out into the wild. Here he's waving a little goodbye.

Off to find some grub and maybe a lady friend, if he's really lucky. Go well, little dude!
